Children

The world is a big, uncertain and sometimes scary place for young children. When faced with social, emotional and/or behavioral challenges, it is important that children are provided with a welcoming, safe and comfortable space to discuss their fears and worries.

Some of the challenges a child might face include but are not limited to:

  • School refusal
  • Self-regulation
  • Shyness
  • Meltdowns
  • Tantrums
  • Trauma
  • Aggression
  • Selective Mutism
  • Separation Anxiety
  • Feelings related to parent separation/divorce
  • Life changes related to a move or the arrival of a new sibling

At Growing Mindful NYC, Michelle utilizes various techniques to help children develop healthier coping strategies that will help them feel more confident in managing their struggles.

Play, a key component of a young child’s development, has been well-known to have benefits across all areas of development including cognitive, physical, social, and emotional.  Michelle believes that Play Therapy should be the primary modality utilized when working with children in a therapeutic setting. Play has a unique role in helping children identify, understand, express and regulate emotions.

Play therapy includes the use of toys, games, sand trays, art, music, and books among other tools.

Enter into children’s play and you will find the place where their hearts, minds, and souls meet.
